Glace Bay / Big Bras d’Or

It is with great sad­ness that we the fam­ily of Olive Theresa Rosko, an­nounce her pass­ing in the pal­lia­tive care unit at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal, af­ter a brief ill­ness. Olive passed away very peace­fully with her lov­ing fam­ily by her side on Tues­day, Jan­uary 31, 2017.

Born in Big Bras d’Or, Fe­bru­ary 13, 1936, she was the daugh­ter of the late Oliver and Brid­get (Gil­li­gan) Dou­glas and was a long-time mem­ber of St. John’s United Church.

A quiet, pri­vate per­son, Olive was a very lov­ing mother, grand­mother, great-grand­mother, mother-in-law, aunt and sis­ter. She resided with her daugh­ter Brenda for the past 28 years where she adored spend­ing time with her grand­daugh­ter Beth and dot­ing on her two cats, Bax­ter and Buffy.

Olive is sur­vived by her daugh­ters, Brenda (Bobby) Jack­son, Glace Bay and San­dra Hutchi­son, Syd­ney; grand­daugh­ters, Amanda (Adam) MacNeil, Ed­mon­ton, Kim (Paul) Oliveira, Toronto and Beth Jack­son, Glace Bay; great­grand­chil­dren, Bhreagh, Caleb and Joshua MacNeil and An­der­son Oliveira. She will also be sadly missed by her sis­ters, Mary Ash (Max de­ceased), Syd­ney, She­lia Miller, Big Bras d’Or, Nancy Tren­holm (Ju­nior de­ceased), Antigo­nish, Judy Ma­cLeod (Daniel), Big Bras d’Or; broth­ers, Claude (Betty), Big Bras d’Or and Brian (Ann de­ceased), North Syd­ney. She also leaves be­hind many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was also pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Sam; grand­son, Mark Ross Jack­son; brother, John and son-in-law, Don­ald Hutchi­son.

In hon­our­ing her wishes, there will be no vis­i­ta­tion.

A fu­neral ser­vice, of­fi­ci­ated by Rev. Carol Gil­lard will be held 11 a.m. to­day, Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 3, 2017 and will be im­me­di­ately fol­lowed by a re­cep­tion, all in V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home, 16 Re­serve Street, Glace Bay.

In­ter­ment will be at a later date in St. James Ceme­tery, Big Bras d’Or.

Fam­ily flow­ers only; me­mo­rial dona­tions in Olive’s mem­ory may be made to the Hospice Pal­lia­tive Care So­ci­ety of Cape Bre­ton County.
