Ten-year-old Will Rudderham of Point Edward gets some high-fives from members of the crowd as 6-11 Cape Breton Highlanders basketball player Mike Luby looks on during the sold-out Dress Up for Down Syndrome event that was held Sunday at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion in Sydney. The mismatched pair was taking part in the fashion show portion of the fundraiser that also featured appearances from Luby’s Highlanders teammates, the Tar City Rollers Roller Derby Girls and the Weird-Beard Troupe, as well as a silent auction. Down syndrome is a condition when a baby is born with an extra chromosome that can affect both mental and physical development. Its incidence rate is approximately one in every 700 births.
