Wall of Fame nominations wanted
The chair of the Glace Bay Wall of Fame is inviting the public to take the time to recognize those who are deserving in Glace Bay and surrounding communities.
“There are a lot of good people and teams out there and this is a chance to recognize them,” he said. “We want to recognize the best in the community.”
The Glace Bay Hall of Fame was established 17 years ago and in 2015 was renamed the Glace Bay Wall of Fame.
The Glace Bay Wall of Fame annually recognizes a volunteer, team, athlete and community builder from Glace Bay and the surrounding communities of Port Morien, Donkin, Birch Grove, Tower Road, Reserve Mines, Dominion and Bridgeport.
Bonnar said approximately 10 nominations have been received to date.
Applications can be picked up at the Bayplex but are to be dropped off at the office of Glace Bay MLA Geoff MacLellan at the Peoples Mall on Commercial Street in Glace Bay.
The deadline for nominations is March 1.
Bonnar said there will also be a community impact award handed out but the recipient will be chosen by the committee. He said this award is to recognize a community leader or someone who has a solid impact on the community.
“Someone who makes a real difference in the community or who leads the community by example.”
Those selected will be recognized during a special event at the Bayplex on April 2 at 7 p.m.
Each of the inductees will be presented with a portrait which will be placed on the Wall of Fame located along the walking track at the Bayplex.
