Cape Breton Post - - IN MEMORIAM/GAMES -

Alder Point

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother Magdalene Iantha (Samantha) Jardine on February 8, 2017 at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Alder Point on February 16, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Martin and Rozzlean (Dugas) Simon.

Mom had strong faith; she was a member of St. Anne Church, Alder Point. In her early years she worked in Halifax, eventually coming back home to care for her mother and brother. After the passing of her mother, she went to work for Bluenose Fisheries in Alder Point as Forelady over the trimmers and packers. Magdalene’s family meant everything to her. She loved baking for them, especially her chocolate cake and apple pies. She loved music and was an avid fiddle player. Many times you would find her outside feeding the squirrels and birds and tending to her many flowers.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Jackie) Jobes, Alder Point and Brenda Cleveland, North Sydney. Along with grandchildren, Debbie ( Dwayne) MacLean , Alder Point and Paula Cleveland, Mira. Great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Riley MacLean, Destiny, Andrew, Dewey ,Carter and Richard Cleveland. She is also survived by brothers, Cecil (Sonny)(Gail ) Simon, Sydney Mines.

Besides her parents, Magdalene was predeceased by her husband, Cecil in 1977, and precious grandson, John T. in 1989. Along with sisters, Doris Laffin, Melinda Campbell, and Agnes; brothers, Basil, Barry, Joe and Amadee.

Special Thanks to all of those who showed compassion to our dear Mom over the years at Taigh Solas and a special Thanks to Dr. Michel and Louise McKeough.

There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass to celebrate Magdalene’s life will be held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church , Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. With Reception to follow in Parish Hall.
