Agency seeks public assistance with investigation
SYDNEY — The provincial Serious Incident Response Team is seeking public assistance as they investigate an alleged offender’s injury while being arrested by Cape Breton Regional Police. A male was arrested after police were called to a Millview Street, Sydney, address on Feb. 4 at approximately 10:50 p.m. Police were responding to a report of an unruly party. Police encountered an adult male who they say resisted arrest. Several hours after the arrest, the male complained of pain and was treated at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for a broken rib. He was released back into police custody. As a result, regional police called in SiRT to investigate. As the investigation continues, SiRT is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 1-855-450-2010 with any information they may have. The incident response team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
