Agency seeks pub­lic as­sis­tance with in­ves­ti­ga­tion

SYD­NEY — The pro­vin­cial Se­ri­ous In­ci­dent Re­sponse Team is seek­ing pub­lic as­sis­tance as they in­ves­ti­gate an al­leged of­fender’s in­jury while be­ing ar­rested by Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Po­lice. A male was ar­rested af­ter po­lice were called to a Mil­lview Street, Syd­ney, ad­dress on Feb. 4 at ap­prox­i­mately 10:50 p.m. Po­lice were re­spond­ing to a re­port of an un­ruly party. Po­lice en­coun­tered an adult male who they say re­sisted ar­rest. Sev­eral hours af­ter the ar­rest, the male com­plained of pain and was treated at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal for a bro­ken rib. He was re­leased back into po­lice cus­tody. As a re­sult, re­gional po­lice called in SiRT to in­ves­ti­gate. As the in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ues, SiRT is ask­ing any­one who may have wit­nessed the in­ci­dent to con­tact them at 1-855-450-2010 with any in­for­ma­tion they may have. The in­ci­dent re­sponse team is re­spon­si­ble for in­ves­ti­gat­ing all se­ri­ous in­ci­dents in­volv­ing po­lice in Nova Sco­tia, whether or not there is an al­le­ga­tion of wrong­do­ing.
