Man­slaugh­ter sen­tenc­ing sched­uled

SYD­NEY — Sen­tenc­ing for a 22-year-old North Syd­ney man who pleaded guilty to a charge of man­slaugh­ter is now ex­pected Wed­nes­day. Cody Alexan­der Rus­sell was ini­tially charged with sec­ond-de­gree mur­der in re­la­tion to the Sept. 30, 2015 death of 26-year-old Stephen Tyler Chisholm but pleaded guilty to the in­cluded of­fence of man­slaugh­ter. Rus­sell, who continues to be on re­mand, was to be sen­tenced Mon­day but the mat­ter was ad­journed un­til Wed­nes­day. Rus­sell and the vic­tim had en­gaged in a phys­i­cal al­ter­ca­tion prior to Chisholm’s death. Chisholm died af­ter suf­fer­ing a stab wound to his chest that cut into the right side of his heart. He also had stab wounds to his back, left side of his face and the right side of his head. Ac­cord­ing to med­i­cal re­ports, Rus­sell suf­fered a bro­ken nose and mul­ti­ple non-lethal stab wounds to his ear, cheek, ab­domen and shoul­der. Rus­sell ad­mit­ted to po­lice he was in­volved in a fight with Chisholm but he said he did not bring a weapon and didn’t know where the knife used in the at­tack came from.
