Manslaughter sentencing scheduled
SYDNEY — Sentencing for a 22-year-old North Sydney man who pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter is now expected Wednesday. Cody Alexander Russell was initially charged with second-degree murder in relation to the Sept. 30, 2015 death of 26-year-old Stephen Tyler Chisholm but pleaded guilty to the included offence of manslaughter. Russell, who continues to be on remand, was to be sentenced Monday but the matter was adjourned until Wednesday. Russell and the victim had engaged in a physical altercation prior to Chisholm’s death. Chisholm died after suffering a stab wound to his chest that cut into the right side of his heart. He also had stab wounds to his back, left side of his face and the right side of his head. According to medical reports, Russell suffered a broken nose and multiple non-lethal stab wounds to his ear, cheek, abdomen and shoulder. Russell admitted to police he was involved in a fight with Chisholm but he said he did not bring a weapon and didn’t know where the knife used in the attack came from.
