Red Cross assisting family

Home, belongings lost in Keltic Drive fire

Cape Breton Post - - CAPE BRETON - BY JEREMY FRASER jeremy.fraser@cb

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting a family of three after a fire destroyed a home on Keltic Drive on Wednesday.

The family, whose identity has not been released, was not home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have arranged temporary lodging, clothing, food purchases and other emergency assistance for a couple and their adult son.

The Coxheath Volunteer Fire Department were called to the structure fire around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday at 429 Keltic Dr. Upon arrival, the home was fully involved with flames and smoke.

The fire forced the department to request assistance from neighbouring departments in Westmount and Sydney River.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated for safety purposes. The section of Keltic Drive between Coxheath Road and Onelis Road was blocked off as fire officials fought the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The family could not be reached for comment, although a request was made through the Red Cross.
