New trial date as­signed

SYDNEY — The Supreme Court trial for a Man­i­toba man charged with sex of­fences has been ad­journed un­til Au­gust.

The trial for Gil­bert Melvin Boyer, 53, of Bran­don, was sched­uled to be­gin on Mon­day but will now be­gin Aug. 9. The trial is sched­uled for three days.

Boyer is charged two counts of sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence in­volv­ing a per­son un­der 16 and sin­gle counts of sex­ual as­sault and in­vi­ta­tion to sex­ual touch­ing.

The of­fences are al­leged to have oc­curred in Glace Bay be­tween 2006 and 2008.

The case is also sched­uled to re­turn to court April 3 for an ap­pli­ca­tion hear­ing into whether a wit­ness will be able to tes­tify dur­ing the trial by video.
