MACDONALD, James Edward “Red Jim”
We regret to announce the sudden passing of James “Jim” Edward MacDonald, 76, of Balls Creek at the Halifax Infirmary on February 16, 2017.
Jim was born on August 18, 1940 in Whitney Pier, he was the son of the late James Andrew MacDonald and Margaret Ellen ( Smith) MacDonald.
He served in the Royal Canadian Forces as a Signals Officer with the Artillery. He was employed as a welder at Sydney Steel, mainly in the Electrical Department and was well respected for his welding abilities. He could make virtually anything out of a piece of steel and a welding rod as he proved to us so many times in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Rose (Organ) MacDonald; sons, Paul (Ivy Sabaldan). Edmonton, AB, Michael (Noelle Christie), Jamie (Darlene Billard) both of Balls Creek; His precious grandchildren, Robert MacDonald ,Ontario, Shaun Morrison, Alberta, Jessica, Jaden, Jenna MacDonald, Balls Creek and Breanna MacDonald, Edmonton, AB., who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by brothers, George “Bud”, North Sydney, Melvin (Cindy) New Brunswick; sisters, Diane (Reg) Blunden Dutch Brook, Lorraine Mombourquette Whitney Pier, Carole (Doug) Spence, Sydney and brother-in-law, Danny De Melo Mt. Uniake and sisterin-laws, Clara Bennett, Sydney Mines, Maude Miles, Corner Brook and Patricia Organ, North Sydney.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte De Melo; brother in infancy, John Dennis; his son, Robert “Bobby’; sister-in-law, Ethel Chaulk; brother-in-laws, George Organ, Frank Bennett, Gerald Miles and a number of nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to give our thanks to the Sydney and Northside Dialysis Clinic and the VON for their continued support over the last six years. We would also like to thank Dr. Navqi for his care in the last year.
Visitation will take place Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
