We re­gret to an­nounce the sud­den pass­ing of James “Jim” Ed­ward MacDon­ald, 76, of Balls Creek at the Hal­i­fax In­fir­mary on Fe­bru­ary 16, 2017.

Jim was born on Au­gust 18, 1940 in Whit­ney Pier, he was the son of the late James An­drew MacDon­ald and Mar­garet Ellen ( Smith) MacDon­ald.

He served in the Royal Cana­dian Forces as a Sig­nals Of­fi­cer with the Ar­tillery. He was em­ployed as a welder at Syd­ney Steel, mainly in the Elec­tri­cal Depart­ment and was well re­spected for his weld­ing abil­i­ties. He could make vir­tu­ally any­thing out of a piece of steel and a weld­ing rod as he proved to us so many times in his life.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Rose (Or­gan) MacDon­ald; sons, Paul (Ivy Sa­bal­dan). Ed­mon­ton, AB, Michael (Noelle Christie), Jamie (Dar­lene Bil­lard) both of Balls Creek; His pre­cious grand­chil­dren, Robert MacDon­ald ,On­tario, Shaun Mor­ri­son, Al­berta, Jessica, Jaden, Jenna MacDon­ald, Balls Creek and Bre­anna MacDon­ald, Ed­mon­ton, AB., who were his pride and joy. He is also sur­vived by brothers, Ge­orge “Bud”, North Syd­ney, Melvin (Cindy) New Brunswick; sis­ters, Diane (Reg) Blun­den Dutch Brook, Lor­raine Mom­bour­quette Whit­ney Pier, Ca­role (Doug) Spence, Syd­ney and brother-in-law, Danny De Melo Mt. Uni­ake and sis­terin-laws, Clara Ben­nett, Syd­ney Mines, Maude Miles, Cor­ner Brook and Pa­tri­cia Or­gan, North Syd­ney.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his sis­ter, Char­lotte De Melo; brother in in­fancy, John Den­nis; his son, Robert “Bobby’; sis­ter-in-law, Ethel Chaulk; brother-in-laws, Ge­orge Or­gan, Frank Ben­nett, Ger­ald Miles and a num­ber of nieces and neph­ews.

Our fam­ily would like to give our thanks to the Syd­ney and North­side Dial­y­sis Clinic and the VON for their con­tin­ued sup­port over the last six years. We would also like to thank Dr. Navqi for his care in the last year.

Vis­i­ta­tion will take place Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 19, 2017 at the SW Chant & Son Fu­neral Home, 564 Alexan­dra St., Syd­ney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Fu­neral ser­vice will be held 10 a.m. Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 20, 2017 in the fu­neral home chapel with Rev. Shel­don Chant of­fi­ci­at­ing.
