SYDNEY — The body of a rural Cape Breton man who was reported missing by relatives was discovered buried under snow near his vehicle.

According to the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, worried family members contacted police with concerns about the man’s welfare and at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday officers were dispatched to the Huntington area along the Mira River southwest of Marion Bridge.

“He hadn’t been seen in a fair bit of time,” said Staff Sgt. Ken O’Neill.

“From the information we gathered from the family and other things we don’t at this point suspect foul play, but obviously because of the circumstances an autopsy will be performed.”

He said the body of a 66-yearold man was located in the snow near his vehicle by members of Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue during their first sweep of the area.

The man’s name has not been released, but it was area residents who confirmed he lived nearby.
