Leah Byrne (above) scored the win­ner for the Mac­In­tyre Chevy Pan­thers in a 5-4 win over the Metro Bos­ton Pizza in fe­male midget ‘AAA’ play Sun­day in Hal­i­fax. Blair MacK­in­non, Aimee O’Neill, Kather­ine Mac­In­tyre and Nicole MacNeil also scored, while Ju­lia Car­roll posted the win. The Pan­thers also skated to a 7-3 tri­umph over the East Hants Pen­guins on Satur­day in Lantz.

El­lis posts shutout for Is­lan­ders

Colten El­lis made 32 saves for the shutout as the first­place Cape Breton West Is­lan­ders blanked the Pic­tou County Weeks 6-0 on Satur­day in ma­jor midget ac­tion. Ja­cob Ste­wart and Craig Ryan scored twice, while Spencer Bar­ron and Stephen Fox added sin­gles.

Trades­men drop pair

The Cape Breton Union­ized Trades­men lost 6-2 to the Pic­tou County Weeks on Sun­day, as Ja­cob Denny and Thomas Si­mon found the back of the net. Seth Crowe made 37 stops. Cape Breton was shutout 3-0 by the Hal­i­fax McDon­ald’s on Satur­day.
