MACLEOD ROGERS, Gloria
It is with sadness that we, the family of Gloria MacLeod Rogers, Sydney, NS, announce her peaceful passing at the Cove Guest Home, on February 19, 2017. Gloria was born in Sydney Whitney Pier on August 27, 1922, the eldest daughter of Walter Stanford and Mary (MacLeod) Stanford. Her family later moved to New Waterford.
Gloria worked at the Steel Plant General Office as a young woman and at the Sydney YMCA office from 1965-1986. She was a life-long member of the United Church of Canada. She will be remembered for being active in the UCW, often serving as Treasurer. She especially enjoyed working in the kitchen for the First United Church chicken dinner fundraisers where she made sure that everything ran smoothly. Gloria had a very special bungalow at Mason’s Field, Mira where she enjoyed many happy times swimming, entertaining and dining with her family and numerous friends for the better part of seven decades.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alan William Rogers (Sydney, 1960); her brothers, John ‘Jackie’ Stanford (New Waterford) and Donald Stanford (New Waterford) and her sister, Dorothy (Stanford) Noble (Halifax).
She is survived by her son, Sean Rogers (Sydney) and her daughter, Mary (Allen) Strang (Sydney); her brother, Walter Stanford ( Glace Bay, Dartmouth); sisters-in-law, Grace (Walter) Stanford and Helen (Donald) Stanford; her grand- children, Stephen ( Linda) Strang (Lingan), Jessica Strang (Sydney), Kaitlin Rogers (Calgary), Aaron Rogers (Calgary) and Levi Rogers (Calgary) and her great granddaughter, Lauren Strang.
Our family wishes to thank the staff of the Cove for the care provided to Gloria for the past nine months. Cremation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the NS Lung Association.
