It is with sad­ness that we, the fam­ily of Glo­ria MacLeod Rogers, Syd­ney, NS, an­nounce her peace­ful pass­ing at the Cove Guest Home, on Fe­bru­ary 19, 2017. Glo­ria was born in Syd­ney Whitney Pier on Au­gust 27, 1922, the el­dest daugh­ter of Wal­ter Stan­ford and Mary (MacLeod) Stan­ford. Her fam­ily later moved to New Water­ford.

Glo­ria worked at the Steel Plant Gen­eral Of­fice as a young wo­man and at the Syd­ney YMCA of­fice from 1965-1986. She was a life-long mem­ber of the United Church of Canada. She will be re­mem­bered for be­ing ac­tive in the UCW, of­ten serv­ing as Trea­surer. She es­pe­cially en­joyed work­ing in the kitchen for the First United Church chicken din­ner fundrais­ers where she made sure that ev­ery­thing ran smoothly. Glo­ria had a very spe­cial bun­ga­low at Ma­son’s Field, Mira where she en­joyed many happy times swim­ming, en­ter­tain­ing and din­ing with her fam­ily and nu­mer­ous friends for the bet­ter part of seven decades.

Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Alan Wil­liam Rogers (Syd­ney, 1960); her brothers, John ‘Jackie’ Stan­ford (New Water­ford) and Don­ald Stan­ford (New Water­ford) and her sis­ter, Dorothy (Stan­ford) Noble (Hal­i­fax).

She is sur­vived by her son, Sean Rogers (Syd­ney) and her daugh­ter, Mary (Allen) Strang (Syd­ney); her brother, Wal­ter Stan­ford ( Glace Bay, Dart­mouth); sis­ters-in-law, Grace (Wal­ter) Stan­ford and He­len (Don­ald) Stan­ford; her grand- chil­dren, Stephen ( Linda) Strang (Lin­gan), Jes­sica Strang (Syd­ney), Kaitlin Rogers (Cal­gary), Aaron Rogers (Cal­gary) and Levi Rogers (Cal­gary) and her great grand­daugh­ter, Lau­ren Strang.

Our fam­ily wishes to thank the staff of the Cove for the care pro­vided to Glo­ria for the past nine months. Cre­ma­tion will take place at Syd­ney Me­mo­rial Chapel. A me­mo­rial ser­vice will be an­nounced at a later date.
