The week­end Fe­bru­ary 24-25 is go­ing to be a celebration of Cape Breton Univer­sity Ath­let­ics. The CA­PERS and the depart­ment of Ath­let­ics in­vite you join in the fes­tiv­i­ties of an ac­tion-packed week­end.

On Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 24 and Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 25, the CA­PERS will play host to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in At­lantic Univer­sity Sport (AUS) bas­ket­ball ac­tion. The CA­PERS Women will tip off at 6 pm and the Men start at 8 pm. The Women are cur­rently bat­tling Saint Mary’s for first place in the AUS stand­ings and fea­ture All-Cana­dian Al­i­son Keough from Mar­ion Bridge. The men are fin­ish­ing up a re­build­ing year that fea­tured the ad­di­tion of new head coach, David Petroziello.

AUS Men’s Soc­cer Cham­pi­onship Ban­ner – Fe­bru­ary 24 vs Saint Mary’s Huskies

Cape Breton Univer­sity will be rais­ing its lat­est AUS cham­pi­onship ban­ner on Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 24 to rec­og­nize the ti­tle of the CA­PERS men’s soc­cer pro­gram. The CA­PERS fin­ished the reg­u­lar sea­son with an out­stand­ing 9-2-1 record and de­feated the Aca­dia Ax­e­men in the fi­nal 3-1 to cap­ture Coach Deano Mor­ley’s first At­lantic ti­tle. This is the fourth AUS ti­tle for the men’s pro­gram over­all and the cur­rent team fea­tures a ros­ter with ten, firstyear play­ers and seven, sec­ond-year play­ers so the win­dow for win­ning is wide open.

Karolyne Blain|Se­nior Night – Fe­bru­ary 25 vs Saint Mary’s Huskies

The CA­PERS will be rec­og­niz­ing the out­stand­ing ca­reer of former CA­PER women’s soc­cer star, Karolyne Blain, by re­tir­ing her num­ber 13. Blain had a record­break­ing, five-year ca­reer at CBU, where she scored 53 goals in 55 ca­reer games. Blain was named AUS Rookie of the Year, a mul­ti­ple AUS first-team and a CIS All-Cana­dian award win­ner. The Sud­bury, ON, na­tive was also a mul­ti­ple time Aca­demic All-Cana­dian re­cip­i­ent and win­ner of the pres­ti­gious James Bayer Me­mo­rial Award for her out­stand­ing aca­demic per­for­mance.

CBU will also be rec­og­niz­ing the ac­com­plish­ments of its se­nior stu­dent-ath­letes on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 25, with a pre­sen­ta­tion to all the se­nior ath­letes who are fin­ish­ing their CBU ca­reers. Women’s Soc­cer – Lysianne Trot­tier, Robyn Novorol­sky and Chelsea Cur­rie. Women’s Bas­ket­ball – Colleen Keane, Natasha Roach and Ja­lynn Skeir and Men’s Bas­ket­ball – Seth Amoah.

Cape Breton Univer­sity Fac­ulty & Staff Ap­pre­ci­a­tion

The CA­PERS var­sity play­ers are invit­ing staff and fac­ulty mem­bers of CBU to at­tend the week­end bas­ket­ball games as their guests as a thank you for the sup­port and hard work that helps our var­sity stu­dent-ath­letes suc­ceed. The stu­dent-athlete’s ex­pe­ri­ence is en­hanced by the tire­less ef­forts of the sup­port­ive fac­ulty and staff on cam­pus.

CA­PERS March Break Bas­ket­ball Camp – Regis­tra­tion Now Open!

The CBU CA­PERS Men’s and Women’s Bas­ket­ball teams will be hold­ing their an­nual March Break Bas­ket­ball Camp from Mon­day, March 13, to Thurs­day, March 16, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The camp is for play­ers aged 6-17 and will take place in the Sul­li­van Field House at CBU.

The March Break Camp is a series of CA­PERS Bas­ket­ball of­fer­ings that in­clude Bas­ket­ball School and Sum­mer Camp pro­grams. Our goal is to play our part in de­vel­op­ing a bas­ket­ball sys­tem that gives play­ers the op­por­tu­nity to play year round.
