The weekend February 24-25 is going to be a celebration of Cape Breton University Athletics. The CAPERS and the department of Athletics invite you join in the festivities of an action-packed weekend.
On Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25, the CAPERS will play host to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) basketball action. The CAPERS Women will tip off at 6 pm and the Men start at 8 pm. The Women are currently battling Saint Mary’s for first place in the AUS standings and feature All-Canadian Alison Keough from Marion Bridge. The men are finishing up a rebuilding year that featured the addition of new head coach, David Petroziello.
AUS Men’s Soccer Championship Banner – February 24 vs Saint Mary’s Huskies
Cape Breton University will be raising its latest AUS championship banner on Friday, February 24 to recognize the title of the CAPERS men’s soccer program. The CAPERS finished the regular season with an outstanding 9-2-1 record and defeated the Acadia Axemen in the final 3-1 to capture Coach Deano Morley’s first Atlantic title. This is the fourth AUS title for the men’s program overall and the current team features a roster with ten, firstyear players and seven, second-year players so the window for winning is wide open.
Karolyne Blain|Senior Night – February 25 vs Saint Mary’s Huskies
The CAPERS will be recognizing the outstanding career of former CAPER women’s soccer star, Karolyne Blain, by retiring her number 13. Blain had a recordbreaking, five-year career at CBU, where she scored 53 goals in 55 career games. Blain was named AUS Rookie of the Year, a multiple AUS first-team and a CIS All-Canadian award winner. The Sudbury, ON, native was also a multiple time Academic All-Canadian recipient and winner of the prestigious James Bayer Memorial Award for her outstanding academic performance.
CBU will also be recognizing the accomplishments of its senior student-athletes on Saturday, February 25, with a presentation to all the senior athletes who are finishing their CBU careers. Women’s Soccer – Lysianne Trottier, Robyn Novorolsky and Chelsea Currie. Women’s Basketball – Colleen Keane, Natasha Roach and Jalynn Skeir and Men’s Basketball – Seth Amoah.

CAPERS March Break Basketball Camp – Registration Now Open!
The CBU CAPERS Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will be holding their annual March Break Basketball Camp from Monday, March 13, to Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The camp is for players aged 6-17 and will take place in the Sullivan Field House at CBU.
The March Break Camp is a series of CAPERS Basketball offerings that include Basketball School and Summer Camp programs. Our goal is to play our part in developing a basketball system that gives players the opportunity to play year round.
