Capers men, women lose to vis­it­ing Huskies

The Cape Bre­ton Univer­sity Capers bas­ket­ball teams dropped a pair of games to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in At­lantic Univer­sity Sport ac­tion at Sullivan Field­house on Fri­day.

In men’s ac­tion, the Capers (0-19) were de­feated 94-78 by the Huskies (12-7).

Mar­quis Clay­ton pow­ered the of­fense for Saint Mary’s with 17 points in the win. Ke­mar Al­leyne and Theon Reefer chipped in with 15 points each.

Kyle Hank­ins had a game­high 18 points in the loss for Cape Bre­ton. Chris­tian Af­folter and Blake Gal­lantly added 15 points each.

In women’s ac­tion, Cape Bre­ton Univer­sity (12-7) dropped a close 65-63 game to the first place Saint Mary’s Univer­sity (15-4).

Shanieka Wood led the of­fense for the Huskies with 11 points and 13 re­bounds. Ken­nisha-Shan­ice Luberisse net­ted 10 points, while An­gelina Carvery, Jenny Lewis, Jasmine Cain and Court­ney Cain-Nordin each chipped in with nine points.

San­dra Amoah had 13 points in the loss for the Capers. Ali­son Keough scored 12 points, and Hannah Brown added 11 points.

The Capers and Huskies will meet again to­day at Sullivan Field­house for the teams’ fi­nal reg­u­lar sea­son games. The women hit the court at 6 p.m., fol­lowed by the men at 8 p.m.
