Swing of things
It was a foggy Sunday morning in parts of Cape Breton, but that didn’t stop crews from continuing work on the new swing bridge over the St. Peter’s Canal. The new two-lane structure, expected to be ready to go in May, is being built to replace the one-lane span that was constructed in 1936. The work is being performed under the jurisdiction of Parks Canada. The St. Peter’s Canal is a national historic site. The canal, built in several phases between 1854 and 1869, links Bras d’Or Lake with the Atlantic Ocean.
