Joseph Stephen MacDon­ald, 58, died sud­denly at his home in Hal­i­fax, N.S. on Fe­bru­ary 11, 2017.

Joe was born on May 2, 1958 in New Waterford, Cape Bre­ton. Joe lived in In­ver­ness for sev­eral years where he was in­volved in the mu­sic scene as a bass player and trav­elled all over Cape Bre­ton Is­land with Jerry MacDaniels. Since his days in In­ver­ness, he moved to Hal­i­fax where he spent the re­main­ing 30 years play­ing with nu­mer­ous bands.

He is sur­vived by his mother, Mary ‘Min­nie’ MacDon­ald, New Waterford; four sis­ters, Cindy Latham, Syd­ney, Lynn Hud­son, Ge­or­gia, Karen MacDon­ald with part­ner Spencer Clulee, Hal­i­fax and Kelli Lee, Cal­gary; daugh­ter, Heather MacDon­ald ,Toronto; nephew, Dar­rick Richard­son, Hal­i­fax; four nieces, Lind­say Latham, North Syd­ney, Bri­tiany Hud­son, Ge­or­gia, Tay­lor and Court­ney MacLel­lan, North Syd­ney; grand­chil­dren, Ai­dan and Lu­cas McDon­ald, Toronto and nu­mer­ous aunts, un­cles and cousins.

He is pre­ceded in death by his father, Joseph Stephen MacDon­ald Se­nior and nephew, Daniel Spencer Richard­son, New Waterford.

There will be no vis­i­ta­tion. Cre­ma­tion has taken place un­der the care and di­rec­tion of V.J. McGil­livray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A pri­vate ser­vice for fam­ily will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 28, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Dea­con Leo Penny of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will fol­low in St. Agnes Ceme­tery, New Waterford. Con­tri­bu­tions in mem­ory of Joe can be made to an or­ga­ni­za­tion or char­ity of choice.
