Cape Breton Business and Philanthropy Hall of Fame inductees named
SYDNEY — Three businessmen and a priest walk into a … hall of fame.
That will be the case when the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Cape Breton University and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, inducts the next four members of the Cape Breton Business and Philanthropy Hall of Fame.
Gillis Building Supplies founder Dave Gillis and Joe Braunmiller, founder of Ideal Foods, will join the business hall of fame, while Catholic priest and retired CBU professor Albert Maroun and his second cousin, Lou Maroun, chair of an international real estate investment firm, enter the philanthropy hall of fame. The nominees for the philanthropy organization/event award were also named Tuesday. Vying for the honour are 100 Women Who Care, Cape Breton Chordsmen, Rib Fest (Rotary Club), and the United Way Winter Gala. The winner in this category will be announced at the hall of fame gala May 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre. Tickets go on sale April 10.
