FLAG RELAY TO STOP IN SYDNEY
The Canada Games flag will arrive in Sydney on Friday as part of the 50th anniversary of the multi-sport event. The flag relay, a Canada 150 signature project, is making stops in host communities across the country. Cape Breton hosted the Canada Winter Games in 1987. A flag raising will be held at noon at the civic centre in Sydney, with a reception to follow. Saturday and Sunday, there will be a travelling exhibit featuring history and memorabilia from the 50 years of the Games on display at the Mayflower Mall. The flag will arrive for the opening ceremony at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, July 28.
