GLACE BAY — Singer and fiddle player Matt Earhart will release his debut album on Friday.

The self-titled CD was inspired by the Glace Bay resident’s struggle with leaving Cape Breton to find work. “The songs that I have chosen represent a very common thing for Cape Bretoners — going away and returning,” says Earhart. “This CD came from that place in my heart that had dreaded the thought of leaving the island. At the time it was recorded, I was looking for work and resolved that if I didn’t find something soon, I would leave to go out West. But before I left, I wanted to create something. I had always wanted to do a CD and thought ‘It’s now or never.’” Earhart, who has performed locally with Mario Colosimo, the Pub Boys, Pat Chafe, and the Shenanigans, has also had roles in the Savoy Theatre’s production of “Les Misérables,” and the Highand Arts Theatre’s “Heart of

Steel.”

The release party will take place at the Savoy Theatre Studio Lounge at 116 Commercial St. in Glace Bay from 7-10 p.m.
