Ru­grats boys, Pan­thers girls post wins

The Riverview Ru­grats boys were led by Tyler Ger­ard with a try in a 13-7 win over the Glace Bay Pan­thers in Cape Bre­ton High­land High School Rugby League play Wed­nes­day at Membertou Ath­letic Field.

Isaiah His­cock scored a con­ver­sion and two penalty kicks for Riverview. Nathan Byrne replied with a try for Glace Bay, with the con­ver­sion by Hyago Bom­fim.

The Ru­grats and Pan­thers sport 1-1 records, af­ter Glace Bay won the sea­son opener at home on April 24, 24-0.

In the girls match, Glace Bay posted a 17-7 vic­tory over Riverview. The Pan­thers re­main un­de­feated at 3-0, while the Ru­grats fell to 1-2.

Emma Locke, Kali Hynes and Mackenna Nor­ris scored tries for the Pan­thers, while Je­nacee Pittman added one con­ver­sion.

Elish Red­shaw had a try and a con­ver­sion for the Ru­grats in the set­back.

League play con­tin­ues on Mon­day at Glace Bay High School field. Riverview and Glace Bay square off in the boys game at 5 p.m., fol­lowed by the Pan­thers girls host­ing the Syd­ney Academy Wild­cats (0-2) at 6 p.m.
