With great sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth (Kenny) Fraser MacRae, 59, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines on February 5, 1958, Kenny was the son of the late Allister and Florence (MacCharles) MacRae.
Kenny worked at Basin Contracting, Martel’s Construction, and Municipal Ready Mix. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 721 for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella (White); his three sons, Kenneth (Jill), Sydney Mines, Bradley (Melissa), Bayside and Matthew (Katrina), Sydney Mines, and grandchildren, Madison, Lily, Calle, Rachel, Kole, Kohen and Princess Charlie, and another baby MacRae due in November. Also left to mourn are his sisters, Mary Lee (Louis) Bernard, Libby (Sonny) Henderson, and Linda (Mark Toussard); brothers, Donald and William (Rose); and half-brother, Brian (Linda) MacDonald; sistersin-law, Peggy (Ronnie), Hazel (Tommy), Thelma (David), Diane (Harry) and Debbie (Danny); brothers-in-law, Melvin (Mary) and Donnie (Janny); numerous nieces and nephews; grand-nieces; grand-nephews; special friends, Farrell Confiant, Carol Hopkins, David Marsh, Ross Crowdis, Norm Dutton and Wayne Strickland and his special fur babies, John Black and Baby.
Kenny was predeceased by his sisters, Beverly (James) Gouthro, Miriam (David) LeBlanc, Barbara and Sharon in infancy; brother-in-law, Charlie White; mother-in-law, Annie White and father-in-law, “John Boss” White.
Visitation for Kenny MacRae will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, May 2017, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A celebration of his life will take place Sunday, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with Dave MacKenna officiating. Family flowers only.
Donations in Kenny’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, either Northside or Sydney.
