We, the fam­ily of Rod­er­ick (Rod­die) Ben­nett, 68, re­gret to an­nounce his sud­den pass­ing on Sun­day, May 7, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal, sur­rounded by his fam­ily.

Born in Syd­ney Mines on May 4, 1949, he was the son of Grace (MacInnis) and the late Rod­er­ick Ben­nett. He was a mem­ber of Holy Fam­ily Parish, Syd­ney Mines.

Rod­die was a mem­ber of the UMW. He worked at the Prince Mine un­til clo­sure. He was a mine res­cuer (Draegerman), for which he re­ceived a medal of brav­ery. He was also an avid hunter and fish­er­man, es­pe­cially with his best friend and brother, Buddy.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Gerry (Ren­dell); sons, Ja­son (Jenna) and Cur­tis; mother, Grace; sis­ters, Sharon (Fred) Howard and Shirley (Don­nie) Mac­Don­ald; grand­chil­dren, Han­nah Rose, Ja­cob, Ja­lynn, Hunter and Shyann; sis­ter-in­law, Elsie (Hatcher), and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by his fa­ther, Rod­er­ick; brother, Robert (Buddy); nephew, Zack, and mother and fa­ther-in-law, Katie and Mark Ren­dell.

There will be no vis­i­ta­tion. Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A pri­vate me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at a later date.
