BENNETT, Roderick (Roddie)
We, the family of Roderick (Roddie) Bennett, 68, regret to announce his sudden passing on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 4, 1949, he was the son of Grace (MacInnis) and the late Roderick Bennett. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines.
Roddie was a member of the UMW. He worked at the Prince Mine until closure. He was a mine rescuer (Draegerman), for which he received a medal of bravery. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, especially with his best friend and brother, Buddy.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry (Rendell); sons, Jason (Jenna) and Curtis; mother, Grace; sisters, Sharon (Fred) Howard and Shirley (Donnie) MacDonald; grandchildren, Hannah Rose, Jacob, Jalynn, Hunter and Shyann; sister-inlaw, Elsie (Hatcher), and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Roderick; brother, Robert (Buddy); nephew, Zack, and mother and father-in-law, Katie and Mark Rendell.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
