Cobe­quid Trail get­ting con­nec­tor to Ro­bie St.

Con­struc­tion is ex­pected to start in June on a sec­tion of multi-use trail in Lower Truro that will ex­tend from the Ro­bie Street round­about to the ex­ist­ing Cobe­quid Trail.

Ap­proval was granted dur­ing Colch­ester County coun­cil’s re­cent bud­get dis­cus­sions to pro­vide $640,000 in fund­ing for the trail that is to run from the round­about along High­way 236 to Truro Heights Road and from there to the Cobe­quid Trail. The cost of the project is to be evenly split be­tween the pro­vin­cial gas tax funds and the mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s Ac­tive Trans­porta­tion Rate.

The work is to be done by lo­cal con­trac­tor Ian Sin­clair, who pro­vided the low­est of three ten­ders at $495,260, plus HST. The project is ex­pected to take 15 weeks to com­plete.

Other costs in­clude ap­prox­i­mately $15,000 for ma­te­ri­als test­ing, $15,000 for staff time as well as $20,000 that has al­ready been com­mit­ted to the project for de­sign fees, geotech­ni­cal and sur­vey work and re­bated tax of $21,227, for a to­tal an­tic­i­pated cost of $566,487.
