Cobequid Trail getting connector to Robie St.
Construction is expected to start in June on a section of multi-use trail in Lower Truro that will extend from the Robie Street roundabout to the existing Cobequid Trail.
Approval was granted during Colchester County council’s recent budget discussions to provide $640,000 in funding for the trail that is to run from the roundabout along Highway 236 to Truro Heights Road and from there to the Cobequid Trail. The cost of the project is to be evenly split between the provincial gas tax funds and the municipality’s Active Transportation Rate.
The work is to be done by local contractor Ian Sinclair, who provided the lowest of three tenders at $495,260, plus HST. The project is expected to take 15 weeks to complete.
Other costs include approximately $15,000 for materials testing, $15,000 for staff time as well as $20,000 that has already been committed to the project for design fees, geotechnical and survey work and rebated tax of $21,227, for a total anticipated cost of $566,487.
