Making musical waves
Festival expanding, will include rising stars showcase
Summer music will again be on the weekly menu as the Sydney Credit Union Makin’ Waves Music Festival returns for a third year.
The tunes will be heard at the Wentworth Park bandshell in the Sydney Waterfront District.
The annual festival, produced by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality recreation department and the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative, will present five weekly concerts on Thursday evenings from July 6-Aug. 3.
The free series will include a performance curated by the Atlantic Presenters Association and Heritage Canada’s Canada 150 Performance Series.
New this year, Sydney Credit Union becomes the first title partner of the festival.
In addition, the Makin’ Waves Music Festival will extend into August for the first time. The concert on Aug. 3 will showcase ‘rising stars’ in the community that have exhibited talent and dedication to their songwriting craft.
Presented by Sound Source Pro Audio, the concert will partner with CBRM recreation’s youth in music program to provide mentorship and opportunity to young musicians in the municipality.
The Makin’ Waves Music Festival will announce more details and the lineup for this year’s festival following the Victoria Day holiday weekend.
