Pan­thers teams post rugby wins over Ru­grats in wet con­di­tions

The Glace Bay Pan­thers rugby teams pulled a pair of vic­to­ries out of muck and mire on Mon­day.

In the cold, wet and muddy con­di­tions at Glace Bay High School field, the hosts bested the vis­it­ing Riverview Ru­grats in Cape Bre­ton Highland High School Rugby League play.

The Pan­thers boys posted a 15-5 win, as Charles War­ren led the way with two tries. Joe Karam added a sin­gle. Lu­cas Parsons replied with a sin­gle try for Riverview.

Glace Bay im­proved to 3-1, while Riverview dropped to 1-3 on the sea­son.

The Pan­thers girls con­tin­ued their un­beaten streak, post­ing a 10-5 vic­tory over the Ru­grats. The game was called mid­way through the sec­ond half due to rainy con­di­tions.

Becca MacDon­ald scored both tries for the vic­tors, while Brook­lyn Rut­ledge added Riverview’s lone try.

Glace Bay im­proved to 5-0 for first place, while the sec­ond place Riverview dropped to 1-3.

Play con­tin­ues on Wednesday in Glace Bay, when the Pan­thers girls host the Syd­ney Academy Wild­cats (0-3) at 6 p.m.
