Vacation Bible School set for August in North Sydney
Plans are underway for a fiveday bible school this summer.
Vacation Bible School will take place Aug. 7-11 in North Sydney. The program is open to children ages 5-12, free of charge, and will feature music, crafts, games and guest speakers.
Keith Burton, music director at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, is one of five committee members working to make the program possible.
“I mentioned the idea of running some sort of music thing within the church and from there it went to running a full bible camp with music and crafts,” said Burton. “We thought it would be good for the children in the area to be able to have somewhere to go that week, because it’s just before exhibition week, so it’s kind of a dead week.”
The program will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout the week at St. Matthew Wesley
United Church, the sponsors of the program. A breakfast will be available for those attending between 8:45-9:15 a.m. each day.
Burton believes it’s important to offer a bible school program in the community.
“I think as the music director of the church, I’m really excited about having a bunch of children come in and teach them the fundamentals of music and rhythms,” said Burton. “It also gives, not only the parents a break, but the children as well – It’s a place to go and learn different things.”
“It’s a good way for children to interact throughout the program as well,” said Burton. “Everybody has some sort of a talent and hopefully the children will be able to bring that out throughout the program.”
Organizers are accepting registration for the bible school. The program will accept 30 children and the deadline for registration is Aug 1.
