Sydney River woman wins Goldbloom Award
Morgan Reid of Sydney River is the recipient of the 2017 Ruth Goldbloom Award in Performing Arts.
The $3,000 award in honour of the late Ruth Goldbloom of New Waterford is given annually to an individual or group from Cape Breton who wishes to pursue advanced studies or a special project in music, theatre or dance.
Reid is entering her fourth year of study at Mount Allison University, completing a Bachelor of Music in classical voice under the Dr. Vicki St. Pierre. At Mount Allison, she has been a member of the Eliot Chorale, Opera Workshop, Varsity Dance Team, a Garnet and Gold Musical Theatre Society production and various music department performances. This summer she will be taking part in two summer opera programs, the Centre For Opera Studies in Italy (COSI) and the Halifax Summer Opera Festival (HSOF). For the first, Reid will spend a week in Sulmona,Italy, where she will participate in a production of Puccini’s “Suor Angelica.” In Halifax, she will perform two roles in Cavalli’s “L’Egisto.”
