Syd­ney River woman wins Gold­bloom Award

Morgan Reid of Syd­ney River is the re­cip­i­ent of the 2017 Ruth Gold­bloom Award in Per­form­ing Arts.

The $3,000 award in hon­our of the late Ruth Gold­bloom of New Water­ford is given an­nu­ally to an in­di­vid­ual or group from Cape Bre­ton who wishes to pur­sue ad­vanced stud­ies or a spe­cial project in mu­sic, theatre or dance.

Reid is en­ter­ing her fourth year of study at Mount Al­li­son Univer­sity, com­plet­ing a Bach­e­lor of Mu­sic in clas­si­cal voice un­der the Dr. Vicki St. Pierre. At Mount Al­li­son, she has been a mem­ber of the Eliot Cho­rale, Opera Work­shop, Var­sity Dance Team, a Gar­net and Gold Mu­si­cal Theatre So­ci­ety pro­duc­tion and var­i­ous mu­sic de­part­ment per­for­mances. This sum­mer she will be tak­ing part in two sum­mer opera pro­grams, the Cen­tre For Opera Stud­ies in Italy (COSI) and the Hal­i­fax Sum­mer Opera Fes­ti­val (HSOF). For the first, Reid will spend a week in Sul­mona,Italy, where she will par­tic­i­pate in a pro­duc­tion of Puc­cini’s “Suor An­gel­ica.” In Hal­i­fax, she will per­form two roles in Cavalli’s “L’Egisto.”
