The area is known for its fish­ing, and tourism, as well as be­ing home to Point Tup­per, with com­pa­nies like Port Hawkesbury Pa­per, NiS­tar En­ergy and the pro­posed Bear Head liqui­fied nat­u­ral gas plant.

IM­POR­TANCE IN THE ELEC­TION:

This rid­ing has be­longed to the Lib­er­als since 1998. In­cum­bent Michel Samson has served in a va­ri­ety of min­is­te­rial roles in­clud­ing as in­terim leader.

TRIVIA:

Rich­mond County was named in hon­our of Sir Charles Len­nox, 4th Duke of Rich­mond and the Gover­nor Gen­eral of Bri­tish North Amer­ica from 1818 to 1819. It has ex­isted since 1835 and was in­cor­po­rated in 1879.
