We re­gret to in­form you of the pass­ing of a won­der­ful fa­ther, son, brother, and friend, Ron­nie Spencer, 49, af­ter a long fight with Hunt­ing­ton’s dis­ease, on May 17, 2017. He was sur­rounded by his two beau­ti­ful daugh­ters and their mom at the An Cala Pal­lia­tive Care Unit in the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal, Syd­ney.

Born in New Water­ford May 13, 1968, he was the son of Reynelda Roach and the late Free­man Spencer.

Ron­nie worked with Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Mu­nic­i­pal­ity En­gi­neer­ing Dept. He loved go­ing to work. His co-work­ers were his sec­ond fam­ily. He had a witty sense of hu­mour, en­joyed prac­ti­cal jokes, and loved to laugh. Ron­nie was a won­der­ful fa­ther. His proud­est days were when Morgan and Madisyn were born. He loved his girls! He would spend sum­mers camp­ing with his girls and had many laughs which will be cher­ished. His life was cen­tered around them. He would also find the time to do any­thing for any­one. He had the big­gest heart.

Ron­nie is sur­vived by his two daugh­ters, Morgan and Madisyn, and their mom, Cathy McRury; his best friend and step­daugh­ter, Meghan Gouthro (Bren­nan). He is also sur­vived by his mother, Reynelda; broth­ers, Dwayne (Heather), On­tario and Timmy (Terri), New Water­ford; nieces, Hannah and Abby; nephew, Jack; step­brother, Frank Roach (Wanda), Cox­heath; step­sis­ters, Dor­thy Neville, Eileen Cashin (John­nie), Cathy Doyle (Paul) and all their chil­dren, all of New Water­ford; many aunts and un­cles; spe­cial friends and co-work­ers, Jen, Billy, Der­ick, and the Spruce Street gang.

Be­sides his fa­ther, he was also pre­de­ceased by his step­fa­ther, Eu­gene Roach; step­sis­ter, Rose MacNeil, and brother-in-law, Francis Neville.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held to­day (Fri­day, May 19, 2017) from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Water­ford. A Fu­neral Mass of cel­e­bra­tion will take place Satur­day, May 20 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Av­enue, with Fa­ther Dan Boudreau of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be in St. Joseph Ceme­tery, New Vic­to­ria with a lun­cheon to fol­low at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Con­vent Street, New Water­ford.

Spe­cial thank you to the nurs­ing staff at the Pal­lia­tive Care Unit and the New Water­ford Con­sol­i­dated Hospi­tal, sec­ond floor. Your com­pas­sion to Ron­nie and us will never be for­got­ten.
