Bail hear­ing set for Bay St. Lawrence ac­cused

SYD­NEY — A Cape Bre­ton man charged with mul­ti­ple breach of­fences is to re­turn to pro­vin­cial court Thurs­day for a bail hear­ing.

Rocky Daniel Buchanan, 38, of Bay St. Lawrence, is charged with 27 of­fences af­ter mak­ing con­tact with his ex-wife that re­sulted in an al­ter­ca­tion with two RCMP of­fi­cers. Buchanan is charged with 16 counts of breach­ing court or­ders in­clud­ing con­tact­ing his ex-wife and fail­ing to keep the peace and be of good be­hav­ior. He is also charged with seven counts of ut­ter­ing threats in­clud­ing threat­en­ing to kill an RCMP of­fi­cer and his fam­ily, threat­en­ing to burn down an of­fi­cer’s home and threat­en­ing to burn down RCMP of­fi­cers homes and the de­tach­ment in In­go­nish and Ding­wall.

He is also charged with two counts of as­sault, in­clud­ing to his ex-wife and a po­lice of­fi­cer along with a sin­gle count of ag­gra­vated as­sault in­volv­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer and a charge of mis­chief re­lat­ing to dam­age to a po­lice ve­hi­cle. Buchanan was re­leased from cus­tody in Jan­uary on con­di­tions that in­cluded he have no con­tact with his ex-wife.
