Syd­ney ac­cused re­leased on con­di­tions

SYD­NEY — A Syd­ney man, fac­ing a drug of­fence, was re­leased from cus­tody Thurs­day on con­di­tions.

Fran­cis John Ab­bass, 60, is charged with pos­ses­sion for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing in mar­i­juana.

The of­fence is al­leged to have oc­curred in Syd­ney on March 6. Among the con­di­tions of his re­lease, Ab­bass is to live on Brookland Street in Syd­ney and re­frain from al­co­hol and all drugs not pre­scribed him by a physi­cian.

He is also to re­port, in per­son, once a week to Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Po­lice and is not al­lowed to pos­sess a cell­phone. He is also to abide by a cur­few.

He is to re­turn to court June 19 to enter a plea.
