Accused elect trial in Supreme Court
ESKASONI — Two people charged with drug trafficking have elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge and jury. Karen Ann Barnaby, 48, of the Listuguji Mi’kmaq First Nation in Quebec, and John Gideon Winter, 28, of the Eskasoni First Nation, are jointly charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in oxycodone. The pair was arrested in Eskasoni on March 9.
A preliminary hearing on the charge is now scheduled for Sept. 12.
Both accused continue their release on conditions.
