Ac­cused elect trial in Supreme Court

ESKA­SONI — Two peo­ple charged with drug traf­fick­ing have elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge and jury. Karen Ann Barnaby, 48, of the Lis­tuguji Mi’kmaq First Na­tion in Que­bec, and John Gideon Win­ter, 28, of the Eska­soni First Na­tion, are jointly charged with pos­ses­sion for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing in oxy­codone. The pair was ar­rested in Eska­soni on March 9.

A pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing on the charge is now sched­uled for Sept. 12.

Both ac­cused con­tinue their re­lease on con­di­tions.
