FARRELL, Richard Howard ‘Dick’

The fam­ily of Richard Howard Farrell, are sad­dened to an­nounce the pass­ing of our brother, age 76, on May 20, 2017 at home in Hamil­ton On­tario. Born in Syd­ney, he was the son of Howard and Mary (Logue) Farrell.

Dick grew up in Whit­ney Pier and was a mem­ber of Holy Redeemer Church and Branch 128, Royal Cana­dian Le­gion. As a young man he moved to On­tario and worked at var­i­ous jobs, un­til 1991 when he joined Up­per Lakes Ship­ping as Gal­ley sea­men, porter, sec­ond cook and chief cook, un­til his re­tire­ment in 2005. His last ves­sel was the Stephen B Ro­man.

He is sur­vived by sis­ters, Paula Filek, En­field, NS, Mar­garet Farrell, Mil­ford, NS and Dianne (Bob) Zgoda, Lack­awanna, NY; two brothers, Wil­liam Mur­ray (Francesca), Ded­ham, Mass. and Ger­ald (Shirley) Farrell, Syd­ney, NS. Also sur­viv­ing are nieces, Carol (Jerry) Pha­neuf, Mil­ford, NS, Colleen (Brad) Fian­der, Lake­side, NS, Emily (Ryan) Zgoda, Pitts­burgh, PA, and neph­ews, Todd (Sean) Farrell, Bos­ton, Mass., Stephen (Sue) Farrell, Hatchet Lake, NS, Tim (Rose Marie) Davis, Ayr, ON, Billy Davis, ON. and Craig (Lind­say) Zogda, Buf­falo, NY.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his long-time part­ner, Joanne Ripa, for­merly of Orangedale, NS, and one sis­ter, Jean Davis, Kitch­ener, ON.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place and a fam­ily me­mo­rial ser­vice will held in Syd­ney at a later date.
