“Jerry”, age 89, passed away on May 23rd, 2017 at the North­side General Hospi­tal. Jerry was Born De­cem­ber 9, 1927 In Syd­ney NS, he was the son of Jeremiah and Nel­lie (Sugg) King.

Jerry grew up in Whit­ney Pier where he lived, drove taxi and raised his fam­ily.

Jerry was the wid­ower of Verna Suter, they shared 16 years to­gether.

A few years af­ter his re­tire­ment; Jerry moved out of the Pier to live with his son and fam­ily. But Jerry’s heart re­mained in the Pier, where he vis­ited of­ten by tran­sit to see his fam­ily, friends and fa­vorite barber shop.

He con­tin­ued to ride the bus to the Pier well into his later life, but as Jerry aged his com­mutes be­came shorter and he be­gan to en­joy his daily walks around the neigh­bour­hood, vis­it­ing the lo­cal dogs. He al­ways had a pocket full of bone for his fur bud­dies.

His fam­ily and friends will al­ways re­mem­ber him as a very ac­tive and in­de­pen­dent stub­born man who showed love in his own way.

Jerry was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Jeremiah and Nel­lie; his son, Jeremiah; his sis­ter, Vi­vian and broth­ers, Levi, Ge­orge and Bill.

Jerry is sur­vived by his son, Wil­liam (Belinda) King; his daugh­ter, Marie (Daryl) Eisan; grand­chil­dren Ash­ley, Robynne, Jer­a­lyn, Ryan, Am­ber, and Tracy; great-grand­chil­dren, Brody, Kay­lynn, Jaxon and So­phie, brother, John and sis­ters, Mary, He­len, Es­ther, Ann, Joan and Carolyn; sis­ter-in-law, Joan.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A vis­i­ta­tion will be held Mon­day, May 29, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Fu­neral Home, 564 Alexan­dra St., Syd­ney with a cel­e­bra­tion of life to fol­low at 7p.m. in the fu­neral home chapel with Rev. Shel­don Chant of­fi­ci­at­ing. In lieu of flow­ers the fam­ily re­quests memo­rial do­na­tions be made to the Syd­ney An­i­mal Shel­ter.
