It is with heavy hearts and great sad­ness that, we the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of Capt. Joseph Richard Pitcher (91), on May 26, 2017, beloved fa­ther, grand­fa­ther & great grand­fa­ther.

Born in Burin, Nfld, Jan­uary 9, 1926 he was the youngest son of the late Matthew & Win­nifred (Paul) Pitcher. He was a pas­sion­ate and lov­ing man whose fam­ily meant ev­ery­thing to him. He moved to Louis­bourg in 1963 and was a sea cap­tain on the trawlers for Na­tional Sea Prod­ucts un­til his re­tire­ment.

Joseph is sur­vived by seven chil­dren: Harry (Donna) Hal­i­fax, Wayne(Nora) Louis­bourg, Joey(Ann) Bate­ston, Calvin(Caro­line) Louis­bourg, Yvonne (Harry) Syd­ney, Bon­nie Whynott (Ste­wart) & Peggy Ma­hon(Bernard) both of Louis­bourg. He is also sur­vived by his sis­ter, Win­nie (Hartlin) Dart­mouth & Grace Bug­den (NFLD).

Joseph is also sur­vived by 13 grand­chil­dren-Trevor, Jody, Matthew, Michelle, Me­lanie, Amy, Daniel, Adam, David, Justin, Kevin, Jen­nifer & Joseph & also 17 great grand chil­dren Alex, Chloe, Ai­den, Stephen, Nora, Liam, Kin­non, Owen, Ben, Chase, Tan­ner, Jaxon, Jack, Beau, Jude, Danny & Tea­gan.

Be­sides his par­ents, Joseph was pre­de­ceased by his beloved wife, of 65 years, Janet. He was also pre­de­ceased by a son in in­fancy, his brother, Dan and sis­ters, Edna & Ruth.

He was an avid hockey fan and the Toronto Maple Leafs was his fa­vorite team.

He will be sadly missed by his fam­ily & friends. “R.I.P. POPPY JOE”

Vis­i­ta­tion for the late Joseph Pitcher will be held at the First United Church, Louis­bourg from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Mon­day, May 29, 2017 Fu­neral ser­vice will take place, Tues­day, May 30 at 2p.m. at First United Church with Rev­erend Emily Dug­gan of­fi­ci­at­ing. Re­cep­tion to fol­low at the First United Calvin Memo­rial Hall.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be made to the First United Church, Louis­bourg.
