PITCHER, Captain Joseph Richard
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that, we the family, announce the passing of Capt. Joseph Richard Pitcher (91), on May 26, 2017, beloved father, grandfather & great grandfather.
Born in Burin, Nfld, January 9, 1926 he was the youngest son of the late Matthew & Winnifred (Paul) Pitcher. He was a passionate and loving man whose family meant everything to him. He moved to Louisbourg in 1963 and was a sea captain on the trawlers for National Sea Products until his retirement.
Joseph is survived by seven children: Harry (Donna) Halifax, Wayne(Nora) Louisbourg, Joey(Ann) Bateston, Calvin(Caroline) Louisbourg, Yvonne (Harry) Sydney, Bonnie Whynott (Stewart) & Peggy Mahon(Bernard) both of Louisbourg. He is also survived by his sister, Winnie (Hartlin) Dartmouth & Grace Bugden (NFLD).
Joseph is also survived by 13 grandchildren-Trevor, Jody, Matthew, Michelle, Melanie, Amy, Daniel, Adam, David, Justin, Kevin, Jennifer & Joseph & also 17 great grand children Alex, Chloe, Aiden, Stephen, Nora, Liam, Kinnon, Owen, Ben, Chase, Tanner, Jaxon, Jack, Beau, Jude, Danny & Teagan.
Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, of 65 years, Janet. He was also predeceased by a son in infancy, his brother, Dan and sisters, Edna & Ruth.
He was an avid hockey fan and the Toronto Maple Leafs was his favorite team.
He will be sadly missed by his family & friends. “R.I.P. POPPY JOE”
Visitation for the late Joseph Pitcher will be held at the First United Church, Louisbourg from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday, May 29, 2017 Funeral service will take place, Tuesday, May 30 at 2p.m. at First United Church with Reverend Emily Duggan officiating. Reception to follow at the First United Calvin Memorial Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Church, Louisbourg.
