Fire in Syd­ney apart­ment build­ing forces ten­ants out

SYD­NEY — Six adults have been tem­po­rar­ily dis­placed by a fire late Mon­day in Syd­ney.

The fire was quickly con­tained to one unit but sent smoke into other ar­eas of a wood-frame house con­tain­ing sev­eral apart­ments in down­town Syd­ney. Dis­as­ter vol­un­teers with the Cana­dian Red Cross ar­ranged emer­gency lodg­ing, food and other ba­sics for four adults. The other two are stay­ing with rel­a­tives or friends. There were no in­juries from the fire, re­ported around 11 p.m. Mon­day in the three-storey struc­ture at 289 Bentinck Street.
