Costco co-founder Jeff Brot­man dies

Costco Whole­sale Corp. has an­nounced the death of its co­founder and board chair­man Jeff Brot­man.

The ware­house club com­pany said in a brief state­ment that Brot­man died early Tues­day morn­ing. The state­ment said the thoughts of Costco’s board, man­age­ment and em­ploy­ees are with Brot­man’s fam­ily. No other de­tails were pro­vided.

Brot­man opened Costco’s first ware­house with Jim Sine­gal in 1983 in Seat­tle. Based in Is­saquah, Washing­ton, the com­pany now op­er­ates 736 ware­houses around the world, in­clud­ing 511 in the United States and Puerto Rico.
