Syd­ney-Vic­to­ria MP Mark Eyk­ing has an­nounced more than $280,000 for 14 com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions in his rid­ing.

The money, which is be­ing granted through the Canada 150 Com­mu­nity In­fras­truc­ture Pro­gram, will help the or­ga­ni­za­tions “re­place, re­pair and im­prove their fa­cil­i­ties so that they can be en­joyed by many for years to come,” Eyk­ing said in a news re­lease.

The groups re­ceiv­ing fund­ing, which to­tals $288,618, are: the Bras d’Or and Dis­trict Se­nior Cit­i­zens and Pen­sion­ers Club, $14,010; North Shore and Dis­trict Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment, $5,904; Friends of Ge­orges River Com­mu­nity Fire Hall As­so­ci­a­tion, $39,946; Lin­gan Her­itage So­ci­ety, $17,466; Syd­ney Mines and Dis­trict Lit­tle League As­so­ci­a­tion, $9,500; Royal Cana­dian Le­gion branch 8, $8,965; Royal Cana­dian Le­gion branch 5, $16,500; Lin­gan Coun­try Club, $48,000; Ki­wa­nis Club of Syd­ney, $40,500; Royal Cana­dian Le­gion branch 12, $8,863; Friends of Whale Watch Cape Bre­ton, $6,943; Seav­iew Golf and Coun­try Club, $50,500; North High­lands Com­mu­nity Or­ga­ni­za­tion, $10,186; Steel­work­ers and the Syd­ney Pen­sion­ers Club, $11,335.
