Beach cleanups to­day

ACAP Cape Breton is host­ing a beach cleanup to­day at Do­min­ion Beach and Big Glace Bay Beach as well as In­dian Beach on the North­side.

“Peo­ple are ask­ing about the cleanups and where they are and if we need help,” said Cait­lyn O’Brien, ed­u­ca­tion co-or­di­na­tor at ACAP Cape Breton.

“We are ex­pect­ing a good turnout at each lo­ca­tion.”

The cleanup is a Sco­tia Her­itage and Marine Stew­ard­ship project put on by the Bluenose Coastal Ac­tion Foun­da­tion in part­ner­ship with ACAP.

The cleanups will be­gin at Do­min­ion Beach at 1 p.m. and at Big Glace Bay Beach at 3 p.m. “We’ve had a lot of in­ter­est shown, we’ve re­ceived a lot of calls from res­i­dents … ex­cited about th­ese cleanups we’re do­ing in the com­mu­ni­ties be­cause they are great for the en­vi­ron­ment,” she said. “It’s also re­ally good for peo­ple to get out and give back to their com­mu­nity.”
