Man charged with im­paired driv­ing in crash that in­jures woman

LEITCHES CREEK — A woman was se­ri­ously in­jured in a sin­gle-ve­hi­cle crash on Leitches Creek Road on Fri­day. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, a 2003 Mercedes car had left the road around 7:30 p.m. and rolled over in the ditch with two oc­cu­pants in­side. The fe­male pas­sen­ger, 22, was ejected from the ve­hi­cle dur­ing the ac­ci­dent. She was taken to Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries. The male driver, 26, ap­peared to be im­paired by al­co­hol. He was ar­rested and charged with im­paired driv­ing, im­paired driv­ing caus­ing bod­ily harm, fail­ing a breath­a­lyzer test, and dan­ger­ous op­er­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle. He was re­leased and is ex­pected to ap­pear in Syd­ney pro­vin­cial court Sept. 19.
