Man charged with impaired driving in crash that injures woman
LEITCHES CREEK — A woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Leitches Creek Road on Friday. According to police, a 2003 Mercedes car had left the road around 7:30 p.m. and rolled over in the ditch with two occupants inside. The female passenger, 22, was ejected from the vehicle during the accident. She was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The male driver, 26, appeared to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and charged with impaired driving, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing a breathalyzer test, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was released and is expected to appear in Sydney provincial court Sept. 19.
