CBRM looking to hire two fire prevention officers

Cape Breton Post - - Cape Breton -

SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is looking for a pair of fire prevention officers.

The closing date for applications is Aug. 18 and potential candidates are encouraged to check out the list of minimum qualifications that is listed on the official website of the CBRM. Deputy fire chief Chris March said the need for the new fire prevention officers comes in light of some recent retirements and the transferring of qualified personnel into the building inspection department.

“We don’t have any left in fire services now and there is only one in buildings who is crosstrained to do both, so we’ve reached the point where we have to hire our own because we have provincial obligations we have to fulfill,” said March.

He said the successful candidates will focus mostly on fire code enforcement, but will also be involved in public education and investigations.

The new officers will work under the direction of the deputy chief of volunteer support, prevention and training.
