Ar­rest war­rant is­sued for Man­i­toba man

SYDNEY — An ar­rest war­rant was is­sued Wed­nes­day for a Man­i­toba man who failed to show in a Sydney Supreme Court for a trial on sex of­fences.

The trial for Gil­bert Melvin Boyer, 53, of Bran­don, was sched­uled to be­gin Wed­nes­day but the ac­cused in­formed his lawyer he was un­able to come of Cape Bre­ton. The trial was set for three days.

In fail­ing to show for his trial, the court is­sued an ar­rest war­rant that was un­en­dorsed mean­ing the ac­cused must brought be­fore a judge in order to be re­leased.

Boyer is charged two counts of sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence in­volv­ing a per­son un­der 16 and sin­gle counts of sex­ual as­sault and in­vi­ta­tion to sex­ual touch­ing.

The of­fences al­legedly oc­curred in Glace Bay be­tween 2006 and 2008.
