Arrest warrant issued for Manitoba man
SYDNEY — An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for a Manitoba man who failed to show in a Sydney Supreme Court for a trial on sex offences.
The trial for Gilbert Melvin Boyer, 53, of Brandon, was scheduled to begin Wednesday but the accused informed his lawyer he was unable to come of Cape Breton. The trial was set for three days.
In failing to show for his trial, the court issued an arrest warrant that was unendorsed meaning the accused must brought before a judge in order to be released.
Boyer is charged two counts of sexual interference involving a person under 16 and single counts of sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching.
The offences allegedly occurred in Glace Bay between 2006 and 2008.
