Musical realities at Savoy
New production to be staged at Glace Bay venue in September
Tickets are now on sale for “What We Become,” a new musical theatre production by Gayle Lahey and Todd Marsh of the music group, Dragonfly Frequency.
Lahey and Marsh’s first full length musical, “Salem 1692,” played to a sold-out house at Sydney’s Highland Arts Theatre in September 2016 and was remounted at the Savoy Theatre in March 2017.
The cast of “What We Become” is rehearsing throughout the summer in preparation for a one-night only performance on Friday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. at the Savoy Theatre. Tickets are $32.75.
“What We Become” is a humorous and harrowing journey into a disturbing reality filled with music, madams, murder and morgues. The story will also explore mental illness, grief and society’s addiction to pharmacology.
A squad of young soldiers is offered a sojourn before heading to war. Promised rest and recreation, they are taken to a mysterious island where all is not as it seems. Lured by the seductive tones of the island’s jazz club and the offer of adventure at the “Body House,” the soldiers become caught up in a dance of deception and darkness.
The cast of “What We Become” includes:
Gabrielle Smith, Daniel Farrow, Emily Murphy, Angela Deveaux, Carol Anne Gillis, Rebecca Rimmer, Jacqueline Evely, Barb Beaton, Bryan Nash, Tristan Baxter, Heather Kerr, Hannah MacKay, Jamie Oliver, Lisa Smith, Chad MacGillivary, Johnny Caines, Emma
