ACQUITTAL

On Sept. 17, 1999, the Supreme Court of Canada acquitted Donald Marshall Jr. of Membertou on three charges of illegally catching eels, saying a 1760 treaty with the British gave his Mi’kmaq band the right to catch fish and sell them for sustenance.
