SYDNEY — A Sydney man charged with manslaughter is to return to provincial court Oct. 6 for a bail hearing.

Larry Daniel Stevens, 34, is charged in connection with the death of 37-year-old James Bernard Bonar.

Stevens is alleged to have punched Bonar rendering him unconscious as he fell onto Argyle Street near Wentworth Park, in the early morning hours of Aug. 31.

Stevens, Bonar and Bonar’s girlfriend were walking along Argyle Street when the two men got into an altercation.

Stevens fled the scene and as Bonar lay unconscious in the street, he was hit by a taxi. No charges were filed against the cab driver.

Stevens made a brief provincial court appearance Friday and will continue to be on remand pending the outcome of his bail hearing.
