■ Funeral pro­ces­sion

Cana­dian Armed Forces ve­hi­cles es­cort a funeral pro­ces­sion with the re­mains of Sgt. Ryan McLean, 37, of Glace Bay along Re­serve Street in Glace Bay on Tues­day af­ter­noon to the funeral ser­vice in the Syd­ney Gar­ri­son, Vic­to­ria Park in Syd­ney, while mem­bers of the Glace Bay, Do­min­ion, Re­serve Mines and Tower Road fire de­part­ments hold an hon­our guard in front of the Glace Bay Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment. In the back­ground, a Cana­dian flag flies from the fire sta­tion’s ae­rial truck. Mem­bers of the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Po­lice Ser­vice also es­corted the pro­ces­sion into Syd­ney. McLean died as a re­sult of an ATV ac­ci­dent on Nov. 7 near his home. He served with the Cana­dian Armed Forces since Sept. 6, 1998. In charge of the main­te­nance sec­tion for De­tach­ment Cape Bre­ton, he was a ve­hi­cle tech­ni­cian with the elec­tri­cal and me­chan­i­cal en­gi­neers for the mil­i­tary. McLean served in Afghanistan in 2008 and 2009.
