We re­gret to an­nounce the death of Mr. D’Arcy McNabb, age 87 of Glace Bay, who died peace­fully on Novem­ber 11, 2017.

Born in Re­serve Mines he was the son of the late Patrick and Emma (MacKen­zie) McNabb.

D’Arcy was a man of great faith. He was a gen­tle­man who took the time to lis­ten to oth­ers. He made friends wher­ever he went. D’Arcy was a mem­ber of Knox United Church serv­ing as Clerk of Ses­sion for over 25 years. He also served on many other church com­mit­tees. He was the found­ing mem­ber of the United Church Men’s Con­fer­ence where he served for over 35 years. In his younger days D’Arcy was an out­stand­ing ath­lete. He played hockey as a goal­tender and helped lead his team to win the 1948 Mar­itime Cham­pi­onship. He was also a fine baseball player and bowled for the Seaboard bowl­ing league.

D’Arcy was a long time em­ployee of the Cape Bre­ton De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion where he was em­ployed in a man­age­rial po­si­tion.

D’Arcy is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 62 years, Cather­ine (Kay) McNabb, for­merly Ri­p­ley, Seav­iew Manor. D’Arcy was de­voted to his wife and loved her very much. He car­ried her high school pic­ture in his wal­let ev­ery­where he went. He is also sur­vived by his niece, Faith St. John; his nephew, Ver­non Jones; his brother-in-law, Percy Jones, as well as well as nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews of the Ri­p­ley fam­ily.

Be­sides his par­ents, D’Arcy was pre­de­ceased by his sis­ter, Pa­tri­cia Jones.

There will be no visi­ta­tion. Cre­ma­tion has taken place un­der the care and di­rec­tion of Pat­ten Funeral Home. Me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at Knox United Church, Com­mer­cial St., Glace Bay on Thurs­day Novem­ber 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bob Big­gar and Rev. David Ma­cLean of­fi­ci­at­ing. Com­mit­tal will take place in Green­wood Ceme­tery.

Me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be made to Knox United Church or a char­ity of one’s choice.
