It is with heavy hearts we an­nounce the death of John Michael Gromack who passed on Novem­ber 12, 2017, in the Glace Bay Hos­pi­tal.

John was born in Glace Bay, Fe­bru­ary 17, 1928, the son of Sam and Mary (Fi­olek) Gromack.

John is sur­vived by his wife, Genevieve of 66 years; sons, Greg (Debbie), Kevin, Rob (Gail); daugh­ter, Mary­beth (Blair); lov­ing grand­chil­dren, Aimee, John, Alina, Kalen, Bran­don, Matthew, Breagh, Jenna and Sa­muel; and great­grand­chil­dren, Rowan, Ben, Isaac, and Luke. John will watch over us with many angels in­clud­ing his son, John Michael (pre­de­ceased fol­low­ing birth 1952).

John was an ac­tive mem­ber of his com­mu­nity over the years; serv­ing as Coun­cil­lor and Deputy Mayor; ac­tive mem­ber of KOC and ac­tive mem­ber of St. Eu­gene’s Par­ish. John re­tired from NS Power af­ter 26 years of em­ploy­ment and worked 12 years with Syd­ney Steel Plant. A man with great strength and full of grace; a quiet de­meanour with lit­tle words but much wis­dom & love. A beloved papa and dad who cre­ated many great mem­o­ries from teach­ing us to drive, how to shoot a bow & ar­row, to car­pen­try and so much more.

A special thank you to the emer­gency staff, and nurses; 3East, Glace Bay Hos­pi­tal, VON, Pal­lia­tive Care, Dr. M. El­lecker and Dr. A.F. D’Intino. To Un­cle Joe and Aunt Rita who pro­vided un­wa­ver­ing love & sup­port. Words can­not ex­press the mean­ing of your kind­ness and love shown to Dad. It has been greatly ap­pre­ci­ated.

A funeral mass to cel­e­brate the life of John will be held at Im­mac­u­late Con­cep­tion Par­ish, Bridge­port on Novem­ber 17, 2017 @ 11 a.m.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily asks that do­na­tions be made to the Heart & Stroke foun­da­tion or the Cana­dian Can­cer So­ci­ety.

Funeral ar­range­ments are un­der the care and guid­ance of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
