GROMACK, John Michael
It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of John Michael Gromack who passed on November 12, 2017, in the Glace Bay Hospital.
John was born in Glace Bay, February 17, 1928, the son of Sam and Mary (Fiolek) Gromack.
John is survived by his wife, Genevieve of 66 years; sons, Greg (Debbie), Kevin, Rob (Gail); daughter, Marybeth (Blair); loving grandchildren, Aimee, John, Alina, Kalen, Brandon, Matthew, Breagh, Jenna and Samuel; and greatgrandchildren, Rowan, Ben, Isaac, and Luke. John will watch over us with many angels including his son, John Michael (predeceased following birth 1952).
John was an active member of his community over the years; serving as Councillor and Deputy Mayor; active member of KOC and active member of St. Eugene’s Parish. John retired from NS Power after 26 years of employment and worked 12 years with Sydney Steel Plant. A man with great strength and full of grace; a quiet demeanour with little words but much wisdom & love. A beloved papa and dad who created many great memories from teaching us to drive, how to shoot a bow & arrow, to carpentry and so much more.
A special thank you to the emergency staff, and nurses; 3East, Glace Bay Hospital, VON, Palliative Care, Dr. M. Ellecker and Dr. A.F. D’Intino. To Uncle Joe and Aunt Rita who provided unwavering love & support. Words cannot express the meaning of your kindness and love shown to Dad. It has been greatly appreciated.
A funeral mass to celebrate the life of John will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport on November 17, 2017 @ 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
