Richmond Hurricanes go 1-1 on opening day of Rock Ya Like A Hurricane tournament

The host Richmond Hurricanes picked up a win and a loss on day one of the Rock Ya Like A Hurricane high school hockey tournament in Louisdale.

The Hurricanes were edged by the NDA/CBHA Huskies 3-2 at the Richmond Arena, Friday night.

Jacob Deveaux scored a pair of goals for the Huskies while Caylum Poirier added a single marker.

Cooper Fraser and Cameron MacDonald replied with goals for the Hurricanes.

Earlier in the day, Richmond opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over the Eskasoni Coyotes.

Fraser, MacDonald, Thomas MacNeil and Bryson Wyre found the back of the net for the Hurricanes.

Antle Denny had the lone goal in the contest for the Coyotes.

In other tournament action on Friday, the Dalbrae Dragons trounced the NDA/CBHA Huskies 14-2.

The Rock Ya Like A Hurricane tournament continues today with Dalbrae playing Eskasoni at 9:30 a.m., followed by Eskasoni and NDA/CBHA at 11 a.m., SAERC versus Dalbrae at 12:30 p.m., NDA/CBHA versus SAERC at 3:30 p.m., and Richmond versus Dalbrae at 5 p.m.

Sunday’s action sees Richmond playing SAERC at 9 a.m., and Eskasoni versus SAERC at 10:30 a.m. Meanwhile, the championsh­ip game is set for 1 p.m., with all games at the Richmond Arena.
