CRANE, Vera Burton

-

Vera Burton (Ivany) Crane passed away peacefully in Northwood Manor on December 13, 2017, at the age of 96.

Born and raised in Sydney, she was the younger daughter of the late William and Daisy (Cake) Ivany. Mom was a wonderful daughter, loving wife, warm and caring mother and doting grandmother to her five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. She was a very active person, enjoyed sports and skated in her youth, where she met her future husband and our dad, Colin. She was an avid curler for many years with the Sydney Curling Club and won the Provincial Championship in 1969 and went on to represent Nova Scotia at the National Women’s Curling Bonspiel in Thunder Bay, Ont. Mom also loved to play golf and played many rounds of golf with her best friend, Clare at Lingan Golf Club. She and our father enjoyed fishing in many lakes and rivers for many years, particularly around the Baddeck area. Mom was very active and involved in various organizations in the community. She was a longtime parishioner of the former Christ Church and was a member of their choir for more than 50 years, as well as serving on numerous guilds. She and our dad enjoyed their Florida trips for over 20 years.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Colin Daniel Crane (2003).

She is survived by her sister, Lillian (the late Francis) Jennings; brother, Gilbert (Dorothy) Ivany, all of Sydney; daughters, Colline (David Perrier), Bedford and Carolanne Crane, Sydney; grandchildren, Suzanne (Darrin), Lower Sackville, Christine (Shawn), Lower Sackville, David (Rachel), Fall River, Colin (Denise), Lawrencetown and Robert (Judy), Vancouver; nieces and nephews. Mom enjoyed being a great-grandmother to her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauren, Kyle, Zachary, Jack and Bridget, and loved the time spent with them.

We would like to express our many thanks to the wonderful staff on 10 Manor and to Dr. Janice MacGregor for their excellent care they provided to our mother during her stay in Northwood.

There will be no visitation. The funeral service, under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, will take place in the Church of Christ King on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the church.

Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
